Department of Urban Construction and Transport Engineering
Founded in 2008, the Department of Urban Construction and Transport Engineering has a total of more than 2000 students， offering five majors namely Road and Bridge Engineering Technology, Municipal Engineering Technology, Railway Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Inspection Technology, Urban Rail Transportation Management. Municipal Engineering Technology, which was set up in 1998, is s major launched firstly among similar colleges in Guangxi. In 2016, it was awarded Guangxi vocational college demonstration characteristic specialty and training base project. In the year 2010, 2016 and 2017, three majors, respectively Railway Engineering Technology, Urban Rail Transportation Management and Civil Engineering Inspection Technology, were launched in succession. The majors offered by the department enjoy high popularity under the background of national transportation infrastructure construction and urban infrastructure construction boom.
The department has 50 staffs, including 35 specialized teachers. Among the staff are 30 persons with master's degree or master's degree, 3 professors, 14 associate professors/senior engineers, 18 lecturers/engineers, 20 people with professional qualifications (registered level-one constructors, registered supervision engineer, registered cost engineer, testing engineer, etc. ). 75% of specialized teachers are equipped with double-professional titles. What’s more, over ten outstanding experts and scholars are employed as part-time outside experts or teachers.
For helping students strengthen and apply in-class knowledge, the department has built numerous training bases, including Geotechnical Laboratory, Construction Materials Laboratory, Asphalt Mixture Testing Training Workshop, Road Material Display Training Workshop, Road and Bridge Model Training Workshop, Survey Design Training Workshop, Cost Management Training Workshop, BIM Technology Training Workshop, Pile Foundation and Soil Foundation Inspection Training Base, Bridge Construction and Inspection Training Base, Municipal Administration Path and Drainage Training Base, Slope Protection and Retaining Construction and Inspection Training Base, and Track Engineering Construction and Inspection Training Base. In addition, the department has co-built outside training bases with about 20 enterprises.
The department has achieved fruitful results in teaching and scientific research. In year of 2012, 2016, the Municipal Engineering Technology Major was awarded Guangxi Higher Institute Distinctive Specialty and Courses Integrated Program, Demonstration Specialty and Training Base Project of Guangxi Vocational Education respectively. In 2017, the municipal engineering technology professional resource database was awarded the first batch of Guangxi Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Database Project. In the past five years, staffs of the department have won the following achievements: winning the third prize of teaching achievement at the autonomous region level; inventing 21 national utility model patents; publishing 80 papers; presiding over and participating in 13 research projects or educational reform projects above the departmental level; being responsible for reviewing, editing and participating in the compilation of 16 teaching materials; winning 1 first prize in the national multimedia courseware competition, 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 1 third prize in the regional informatization teaching application competition; participating in the compilation of 4 local standards. 2 state-level and 9 provincial-level construction laws were compiled by school-enterprise cooperation. Students also excel in competitions: 1 team first prize, 3 team third prizes, 5 individual first prizes, 9 individual second prizes and 5 individual third prizes in national skill competition; 3 silvers and 3 bronzes at the autonomous region level, 3 golds, 3 silvers and 10 bronzes at the college level in the "Internet +" University Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
